Filip David

Filip David was born in Kragujevac in 1940. He graduated from the Faculty of Philology and the Academy for Theatre, Film, Radio and TV in Belgrade, where he majored in drama. He worked as a writer and was editor of Drama for Belgrade Television up until 1992. He has written many television dramas and movie screenplays. He has published three books of stories: Bunar u tamnoj šumi (Well in the dark forest), Zapisi o stvarnom i nestvarnom (Writings about real and surreal), Princ vatre (Prince of Fire); novels Hodočasnici neba i zemlje (Pilgrims of heaven and earth), San o ljubavi i smrti (Dream of love and death); books of essays Fragmenti iz mračnih vremena (Fragments from dark times), Jesmo li čudovišta (Are we monsters), Svetovi u haosu (Worlds in chaos). He published Knjiga pisama 1992.-1995. (Book of letters 1992-1995) with Mirko Kovač. He has won many prizes for prose, including Mladost, Milan Rakić, BIGZ and the Prosveta award for book of the year, and the Andrić’s award. His books have been translated into many languages, and his stories can be found in about twenty anthologies.
